I’m going to call this a label problem. Unfortunately, I cannot redesign the antiquated labels, so I have to make what I have fit them. The labels are 8.5 x 4 inches and are on tractor-fed cardstock with 8.5 x 12 inch pages. This should allow for three labels to be printed on each page of these pre-printed cards, but apparently because of margins the last label is cut off and the text on the right side wraps to a new line.

Even after installing the line printer drivers and creating a custom page size of 8.5 x 12 with margins set at 0, the margins on the File, Print menu refuse to be set to 0 through the GUI. Is there a way to overcome or work around this?

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

You may be out of luck, unless you can find a printer driver that will allow you to set the margins to 0. It seems that you have 2 problems, the left/right margins and the top/bottom margins. How close to the edges are you actually printing? And what are the minimum margin settings the driver allows?

Thanks for the reply. The print goes all the way to the right edge. It truly is a stupid design that’s about 20 years old, but it’s a federal form and we’re stuck with it. If nobody can come with something on this, I may have to try Unix.

on an old dot matrix printer I used to get around it by setting a custom page wider than the real page which let me print to the edge. not sure what would happen to your page lengths if you tried it though

Have you try the Generic / Text Only printer driver ?
If you set the paper source to Continuous No page Break, you can set the margins to 0

The only other thing I can suggest is to add another printer to your system configuration, using the “Generic Printer” driver. This usually allows you to select 0″ margins. Your line printer will probably work with this driver. I’m assuming there are no graphics on the form, as you may not be able to use anything other than standard (non-TrueType) fonts.
