I have 3 (cheap) external drive with the exfat format I got to use as backups. The problem is the image file always checks bad and I can’t use it.  I can use a drive with a ntsf format and no problem.  I also have several flash drives with the exfat format that I can’t make a rescue usb with  but again works with other formats.  Any ideas as to what’s up with the exfat format?  I did also try on two different computers with same problem.  This is on windows 11 computers.

Does EaseUS Todo Backup support exFAT file systems

“No, EaseUS Todo Backup does not natively support the exFAT file system for backup operations. According to the official documentation and system requirements, EaseUS Todo Backup supports the following file systems:

      FAT12, FAT16, FAT32

      NTFS

      Ext2/Ext3/Ext4”..

Pros and Cons of File Systems used with Internal and External Drives

I read through the pros and cons of filesystems about two years ago when I was having no end of problems getting a USB drive to boot into Ventoy.

I reformatted as NTFS, rather than exFAT… and haven’t had any further issues.

      Hope this helps…

Do NOT use cheap drives for backup. As you have discovered, this may not produce a “backup”.

Spend money on a standard USB HDD and use that as the backup destination. You can store multiple backups on one drive.

      cheers, Paul

p.s. I would test your drives with GRC Validrive to see what you actually have – this will not be fast.
