I’m confused, which is something that is getting more commonplace as I get older. I’ve read that Gmail will turn off the “less secure apps” setting on the 30th September 2024. I believe the setting is necessary for Outlook 2021 to continue working with Gmail. I can’t seem to find anything about it when I search. Does anyone know if I have this right and that Outlook 2021 will be useless for Gmail after the 30th September please?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody_MVPSeptember 28, 2024 at 2:33 pm #2706642Outlook 2021 is fine:
Users with Outlook 2016 (retail version), 2019, 2021, and 365 won’t have a problem when Less Secure Apps is disabled. They can connect to Gmail accounts (using IMAP) with Allow less secure apps turned off. Gmail users with older versions of Outlook who want to continue to use Outlook will have two options: upgrade to new version of Office or enable two step verification on their account and use an app password.

AskWoody PlusSeptember 28, 2024 at 2:57 pm #2706648I suppose I could change to IMAP, I have a few POP accounts in use. I believe I have to delete the POP accounts first and then redo them as IMAP. I’ve read that I shouldn’t lose any data. I hope that is right. The PST files are backed up anyway so I shouldn’t lose much even if it goes wrong.

POP3 connections will still work but only if the email program you’re using supports oAuth2 type authentication and you have set it up.
