    Thunderboard-Message-Bar

    Hi Loungers,

I’ve been reading posts about the SuperNova TB, but can’t figure out the answer to my question so hope you can help.

The Message bar (I think it is called) now has a gray background which makes it very hard for me to read (see attached image, above). I much preferred the black icons/text against a white background as it still is in the Search section.

Can someone please tell me how to change the background to white again?

    Thank you,

    Linda

There is a discussion about the changes in Thunderbird 115 in this thread. Seems changes to the older appearance can be made through CSS Stylesheets, userChrome.css. There may be more than one change that you’re interested in.

This post mentions color in the bar.

That is a transparency effect on the rest of the bar. If you want to turn that off, this pref might do it:

      widget.transparent-windows

If you go to Settings, then scroll all the way down and look on the right bottom of the menu, you should see Config Editor. Press that, say OK if it warns you to be careful, then enter the above line into the search box (you can cut and paste it). When the pref appears, toggle it to false with the button on the right side of the window.

I can’t really test that as I do not have any transparency effects enabled, but it seems like it should work.

If not, you could try changing the theme. If you have the menubar enabled, it’s under Tools, then Add-ons and themes. The default theme uses the system settings, or at least it tries to. There should also be a light one and a dark one that might work for you.

Yes, IreneLinda, besides the ones that you probably already have that are built in, if you open the Add-ons and Themes tool and search for windows – you should see a few other themes that you might want to try to see if they work. I’m using the one suggested in the thread PCKano indicated above – Windows 7 Basic and is it fine – turns the top and bottom bars blue.

This new version takes a little bit of tweaking and getting used to – a lo of it is just muscle memory – but mine looks a lot like my old version.

Thanks for all the help and apologies for getting back to you less than promptly!

I checked PKCano’s link but found them a bit confusing so put off doing anything. I then saw Ascaris and LHiggins posts and decided to try changing themes. As suggested, it was set to “system theme”. I enabled “light” and, ta da, my message bar background is now white, not gray, and I can see everything very clearly Yay!

I sure appreciate your suggestions and assistance. You made this SO easy to fix. It would have taken me a very long time to get this figured out on my own.

      Thanks again,

      Linda
