AskWoody PlusNovember 23, 2020 at 5:27 pm #2313863Susan, re Remote Desktop applications, I have used, for 2 years, something called AnyDesk (AnyDesk.com) and it’s free for personal use. I use it under Linux Mint Cinnamon 20 now but it also works for Windows. I use it from my Windows 7 computer too. (I would not ever consider Windows 10.)

AskWoody LoungerNovember 24, 2020 at 9:35 pm #2314216You might want to know that you don’t need the paid version of TeamViewer in order to get a remote control connection to a smartphone. The person who wants assistance with their phone (whether Android or iOS) can simply download the free TeamViewer QuickSupport app. Once installed and opened on their phone they’ll get an ID number.
Then the person providing support plugs that ID number into the free version of TeamViewer on their desktop PC, and a connection will be established between the smartphone and the desktop. There is no password provided (or needed) on the phone. However, the person with the phone needs to explicitly grant permissions in order to allow the support person to see the phone’s screen and/or actually control the phone.
I’ve used the QuickSupport app to provide assistance to both a friend with an iPhone and my elderly aunt with a Samsung Galaxy A21. On the Android phone, I was able to control it with the mouse on my Windows desktop PC as if I had the phone right in front of me. With the iPhone, I wasn’t able to figure out how to control the phone; but I was able to view the screen. And that allowed me to talk my friend thru what he needed to do on the phone in order to get his issues fixed. The free version of TeamViewer worked flawlessly in both cases without a problem. No need for a paid subscription. I can highly recommend it.
