    Windows 10:

The other day I had a strange experience: I couldn’t access my external harddrives. They were plugged in, and the system acknowledged it (by sound) but they were not visible in Explorer or anywhere else.

Then in Device Manager, I could see that something was wrong, and got the message that an old driver was present in memory.

Then, probably somewhere in Device Manager, I could check for problems and ask them to be solved. After a while, it said it had tried to solve the problem, and asked me to reboot. (But no explanation).

    Then the problem was solved!

I am a little new to Windows 10, but I was somewhat surprised at the whole thing.

Anybody knows more about what was going on?

IT sounds like the correct driver was not installed originally, but was installed with the reboot.
