I’m downloading it to see if they actually fixed on the most annoying bugs, to me, in Windows 10. The most annoying was when my SD card had the data wiped and the drive letter changed. I really hope the reshuffling of the deck chairs at Microsoft gives us an improved update experience. I can’t complain too much as botched Windows 10 updates brought my shop an increased amount of business this year. Tough call. Complain, or say thanks. Schrodingers update.

the official release of KB4571744 is build 19041.488, not 19041.487

includes at least some sort of defrag/optimization fix…at least it should now remember its previous defrag status (KB4571744 just patched the defragproxy.dll, defragres.dll & defragsvc.dll files but not the defrag.exe & dfrgui.exe files)

Downloaded and installed, with no apparent ill effects as yet.  When a disk is optimised or analysed now, defrag seems to be remembering the last date & time when it was done.

Weird, I just checked an only saw the NET 3.5 and 4.8 update.  My system updated to 2004 as my 90 day hold on this version expired the other day.  I’ve been running 2004 without any issues.  I’ll check again tomorrow to see it the update mentioned shows up as the fix for the drive defrag is important to me.  I’m on OS build 19041.450.

I didn’t use Windows Update.  I downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

a follow up on my previous comment – the KB4571744 update officially released Sept. 3 has v10.0.19041.488 of the defragproxy.dll, defragres.dll & defragsvc.dll files instead of build 19041.487 as I checked these updated DLL files myself from the \Windows\System32\ folder.

The late timing of this E(?) week update makes it pretty much useless, might as well wait few days for patch Tuesday. I wonder if this is record for Microsoft to cut it this close?

Also, this update mysteriously appeared and then disappeared from my Windows Update, after I selected it to be installed. So I guess I’ll just ignore this update anyway.

Why is such large number of fixes optional? Will they make it mandatory after betatesting amongst the public? Anyone?

Having installed this supposed FIX for the defrag issue, the patch still has issues where. It will as advertised show the correct date & time for the run. Looking in the system event logs there is an error where, defrag reports that re-trim couldn’t be performed. I do NOT have an SSD installed on this system, just one 2 TB SATA III. Reported same to MS through the feedback hub as well. Screenshot attached for those interested.
