I have 2 Win 10 1909 computers running 24/7. CYBERPOWER2 often shows No Internet Access in the system tray, but I think it really means not logged into my Windows account, even though I do log into it at bootup. (I do have internet access, but Windows apps like StickyNotes think I’m offline).

If I reboot chris-win8, this usually solves the problem until I reboot CYBERPOWER2.

See attached screenshot. What would cause CYBERPOWER2 to have 2 IPs and 2 MACs? CYBERPOWER2 is in WORKGROUP but is not shown as such in IP Scanner. What would cause this and is either symptom relevant to my problem?

The 192.168.56.1 address is puzzling as I wouldn’t expect my router to have assigned it.

  Open Device Manager>Network Adapters to see if there are new network adapters you do not recognize and also check Network & Internet category in Settings. (If the Control Panel still exists look in the Network and Sharing Center.)
  
  Can you expand the greater than sign to see details in that utility?

  The one without a manufacturer name may be a virtual adapter. Do you have a VPN / virtual machine?
  
  We need info about the networks your machine using. Type this in a Command Prompt and post the output: route print

  Thanks! My VirtualBox “adapter”, though not running, is responsible for the 192.168.56.1 address. I think this is unrelated to my problem.

  Thanks. The earlier reply solved the adapter issue but not the “No Internet Access” problem.
  
  It’s interesting, though, that the “real” adapter doesn’t show WORKGROUP.

  Your routes look fine so it may be a DNS issue, or something more substantial. Might be time to reset your networks.

  For me, rebooting the computer I call chris-win8 (running Windows 10 1909) temporarily “resolves” my issues.

  With chris-win8 off, I don’t see the problem.
  
  At the moment, chris-win8 is 192.168.1.8, though with DHCP, it could change. I have no need to assign a fixed IP to that device.

  I have had problems with internet connectivity after installing a Microsoft update.
  
  The problem was a 3rd party Anti-Virus program.

  I hope this is relevant to your problem on chris-win8.

  Sounds like chris-win8 is interfering, probably a duplicate IP.
  Check network use on chris-win8 in case it is going mad and sending packets all over the place.

  No dupe IDs.
  
  chris-win8 is my server for Logitiech Media and TrendnetView, so it does send lots of packets and has been doing so for many years. My current annoyance started only recently.

  It may not solve the problem but it doesn’t hurt anything to reset winsock and tcpip.

  netsh int ip reset
  
  Disable IPv6 on the pc’s. Some routers used to have issues with IPv6 and would time out.

  Only those that appear through my WiFi repeater. Both Win10 machines use wired 1GB connections so MAC issues shouldn’t be involved.
  
  A stated in my first post, I do have local network and internet access. It’s a Windows logon issue. I do not use local accounts. I log onto both Win10 machines with the same Microsoft account and have done so for years.
  
  The problem occurs only if chris-win8 is running when I reboot CyberPower2.

  If there is virtual s/w for VMs, that would mean shared Internet => DHCP Server to handle multiple IPs (host and guest(s))

  There could be shared Internet also on the network.
  One case would be if you have a modem only and multiple computers. You can have one computer with the ISP connection acting as a router (shared Internet) for other computers.
  
  If CyberPower2’s Ethernet is set up as shared, and the WiFi is connected directly to the Router (or visa versa), you would see IPs on two different segments and two MACs for the different NICs. The shared connection may give the “No Internet Access” because it is not in the direct route and is retaining the previously assigned IP. Rbooting the main computer could reset the shared IP.
  
  If appliceations are specifically using the connection that is shared (I have some that seem to default only to WiFi if it exists), maybe they get the “not connected” message.

  You emphatically state it’s not a network problem but the problem persists.
  
  Create a new MS account with a dummy email and login on the problem PC. Test. Does the problem go away? If so, your hypothesis is proven.
  
  If not, then you need to revisit and resolve the network side.

  I don’t use a Microsoft account to log in, but my OneDrive does, and I have two PC’s, a laptop and my Windows phone all logged in to OneDrive using the same Microsoft account.
  
  Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!
  We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems; we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things.
  We were all once "Average Users".

  Hi Chris, sorry if my question isn’t relevant or appropriate, but I wondered if your router has 2 bandwidths for wifi?
  Is it possibly related to a 2.4gH & 5gH connectivity option? or possibly a guest wifi log-in?
  
  I realise you have had a lot of feedback, and some of it hasn’t been as helpful as you had hoped, so I don’t wish to push any buttons here 😉
