It’s up in the Catalog dated 8/16 and on the Win10 site listed as Build 14393.1613, but not listed in the Software Update Services site yet.

Yep. That’s what I’m seeing, too. There are a couple of possibilities, discussed in the article.

It seems that Microsoft often doesn’t document new Windows 10 builds at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/894199/software-update-services-and-windows-server-update-services-changes-in. Anybody know why?

        • #129930

Yes. Because that list is only for updates that are pushed out automatically, via WU or WSUS.

These “preview not labeled as preview” patches for Win 10, aren’t pushed out automatically, they are manual download and install only.

Main reason they aren’t pushed being, WU on Win 10, doesn’t let patches be pushed in the “available but unchecked by default” state, like all previous Windows versions.

As to the reason why they aren’t properly labeled / documented as preview, well, ask the man upstairs…

Some catalog-only updates are listed there though. Search the article for “Deployment: Catalog” to list them.

Ok, good point, the plot thickens…

Is it possible to download and manually add the Win 10 preview patches to WSUS?

I’m waiting until it’s Level 3 to begin patching, but I will check when using the WU hide tool used to see what updates to hide before installing to see if it’s there and ready to install when it’s level 3.

Nope, nothing in Windows Update yet

According to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4034661/windows-10-update-kb4034661 as of now (6:22PM EST 08/17/2017) the “How to get this update” notes say, only:

To get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

Sounds like just another typical pre-release… and mis-documentation.

Yep. Looks like they fixed it.

It’s really too bad. This is an excellent way to do patch previews in Win10. But they, uh,  need to document it!
