This morning Windows Update informed me of the availability of KB3217877, as well as KB4012864. Both have a Windows Update publication date of March 21. The latter KB is for DST changes in Windows for Northern Cypress, Mongolia, and Russian Saratov region.

KB4012864 is a checked important update, KB3217877 is an unchecked optional update. A Google search gives no results for KB3217877. I can find it in the Microsoft Update Catalog though, only available for Windows Vista and Server 2008, but with March 16 as the date.

Any ideas about what KB3217877 is?

    I am running Vista BTW.

Thanks, but that KB does not mention KB3217877 anywhere, or am I missing something?

KB3217877 hasn’t documented till yet. As far as I has seen, they are patching several things link Universal C runtime (UCRT). I guess, it’s some issue fixes.

Update KB4012864 has been covered here: Windows 7/8.1/Server: WSUS-Update KB4012864

Ok, I wrote a blog post KB3217877 summing up the things here:

I extracted patch content, and in the end it’s just a UCRT update.

At long last Microsoft has finally posted MS support KB article 3217877 this Thursday evening of March 23:

      https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3217877/update-for-windows-server-2008-and-windows-vista-kb3217877

This update fixes the following issue:
•When you use the fread() function to read data from a pipe in Windows Vista Service Pack 2, the runtime program may omit line feed (LF) characters between lines and cause corrupted output.

No “File Information” section has been mentioned in support article 3217877…yet.

      I don’t think KB3217877 supersedes/replaces KB2999226 or KB3118401 on Vista.

I am surprised they even publish an optional update like that with EOL just 3 weeks ahead…

        Thanks for the update anyways.
