Most of us in the US are one hour ahead of where we were yesterday. Did you know that DST was first used in Ontario, in 1908? Germany was the first co

AskWoody LoungerMarch 12, 2017 at 11:49 am #100674Daylight Saving Time is like cutting off 1 ft. of a 24 ft. rope, sewing it onto the other end, and then claiming the rope is 1 ft. longer. It makes no sense, is irrational, and I hate the change twice a year. It would make SOME sense to just move the actual time ahead 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 — whatever — hours and leave it there year around, IMHO.

AskWoody_MVPMarch 12, 2017 at 2:04 pm #100691Woody, to the best of your knowledge, what has traditionally been happening with the time of release for the updates on Patch Tuesday when the DST changes in US? Is the release offset by one hour or it has no relevance at all? It matters for the rest of the World.
As you can understand, we waited long enough so 1 hour plus or minus matters a lot for many of us.

AskWoody PlusMarch 13, 2017 at 9:15 am #100843Patch Tuesday follows US time and thus DST. I know because DST in Europe starts later (this year March 26) and ends sooner than the US. During those few weeks, when the time difference between Europe and the US decreases (e.g. from 6 to 5 hours between Amsterdam and New York), the updates arrive at 6 P.M. instead of the usual 7 P.M. (or 18:00 vs. 19:00 as we in Europe prefer it

AskWoody LoungerMarch 12, 2017 at 2:13 pm #100702Woody, is it possible to add a Timezone setting to these forums, so those of us not living in US timezones can see accurate dates and times?
I just posted at (local time) 4:55 am on March 13 and it shows as posted on 1:55 pm on March 12.

AskWoody_MVPMarch 12, 2017 at 2:22 pm #100705If you use Firefox, there is a useful and always up to date add-on named FoxClocks.

This would assist with your issue.1 user thanked author for this post.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 15, 2017 at 7:59 pm #101541Sorry, I didn’t express myself well.
I would like to see all posts’ date and time to be shown in my timezone. For example, if I post at (my local time) 1 pm on March 13, I want to see “March 13 at 1:00 pm” against it, not the current US date and time.
Forum software traditionally has a user profile setting where users can either set an offset (eg UTC+10) or specify a timezone (eg Australia – Brisbane (UTC+10)). All dates and times shown for anything forum related is then adjusted to the user’s timezone.
I could probably cobble together a Firefox addon to do this, but adding this functionality to the users’ profile would benefit all of us outside of the US timezone used.

ManagerMarch 15, 2017 at 8:14 pm #101544I don’t believe this is a setting available in the current software; therefore it would need to be especially written (if it was possible), and such things don’t come without cost. Many site improvements are on the wishlist, but cannot be implemented at this stage.
The default used is to show the blog’s local time, in this case US CDT now, not GMT/UT. This was discussed during the trial stages of the Lounge, and apart from Daylight Saving time changes (which doesn’t affect Brisbane!), should be fairly easy to gauge when the posts were made.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 12, 2017 at 7:17 pm #100743I was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan but now live in Calgary, Alberta. Simply put, they went their own way. Allot of people had the same feeling, that people have today, whom are against DST. They just had those feels, decades ago. I was living just outside of Toronto(TO) when they changed that.

AskWoody MVPMarch 13, 2017 at 8:51 am #100832Personally, I like Daylight Savings Time for one reason — In the summer, I need to cut my grass. Daylight Savings Time gives me extra daylight after work in order to cut my grass. And conveniently, Daylight Savings Time is turned on during those months when grass cutting is needed.
I vote to continue with Daylight Savings Time!
