Windows 10 version “twenty – oh – four” hits Release Preview Ring
Looks like Windows 10 May 2020 Update (that’s the official name) is inching closer to the finish line.
On the official Windows Blog, Brandon LeBlanc says:
We are now getting the Windows 10 May 2020 Update (20H1) ready for release and releasing Build 19041.207 to Windows Insiders in the Release Preview ring. We believe that Build 19041.207 is the final build and we will continue to improve the overall experience of the May 2020 Update on customers’ PCs as part of our normal servicing cadence.
Of course, MS froze all version 2004 features in December. All we’ve seen since then are bug fixes. And there’s been quite a slug of them.
If Microsoft really does release 2004 next month, there’s exactly zero reason to install it right away. The new feature list is basically non-existent: Cortana fades into the background with text (not voice) at the forefront; Virtual Desktops can be named (if you use them; I don’t); more Control Panel stuff is in the Settings app. Yawn, yawn, yawn.
Lots of reason to put off installing the beast. I just wish MS would push it farther out, until the computing world gets closer back to normal.
As soon as we know how it’ll appear (likely as a “Download and install” option, but possibly some other way), I’ll have full details on delaying it.
UPDATE: Tom Warren at The Verge tweets, “I installed the latest Windows 10 May 2020 Update (RTM) on my main PC and there are so many obvious bugs, I’m starting to wonder if Microsoft just gave up on testing Windows 10 on real hardware properly… Multiple monitor support with certain apps full screen creates a weird white line. I’ve rolled back to 1909.”
