• Another acknowledged bug in this month’s Win10 patches – but it’s boring

    Microsoft has just updated the KB articles for the June cumulative updates for Win10 version 2004, 1909, 1903 and 1809. (Note that there are two cumulative updates so far for each; the second fix numerous printer bugs in the first.)

    The new warning says:

    The Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) file (lsass.exe) might fail on some devices with the error message, “A critical system process, C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe, failed with status code c0000008. The machine must now be restarted.”

    Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming yada yada yada.

    Of course, there’s no notice on the official Win10 Release Status Information page.

    LSASS.exe is a key file in the Windows logon verification process.

    So if your machine inexplicably reboots, well, here’s your explanation. If it keeps rebooting, you need to uninstall the June patch. But if you’ve been following along here, you haven’t installed the June patch yet, so whistle a happy tune.
