• Patch Lady – report on the August updates

Patch Lady here and so far (with a few exceptions like the SQL update) I’m not seeing any major trending issues with the August updates.

Mind you that there are still the normal issues with updates that I consider “normal”.  Yes some people will have problems installing.  But it’s the “normal” failure level not an abnormal level.  With updating there’s always a small percentage of issues that can occur but it doesn’t mean that you or I will necessarily hit issues.  That said I always say that the best way to prepare yourself for updating is having a full backup, and having another device (even if it’s an ipad or a phone) that you can google up error codes and post on askwoody.com for advice.

The known issues (Edge having issues with app guard) isn’t something I’m tracking nor seeing in my personal use.

For those that are Windows 7 users, if you are security only patchers, remember you will need to install both the July and the August updates as well as KB4345459.

If anyone can find information to the contrary, that the fix is included in the August patches, please holler and let me know.

I don’t see that the KB4345459 is included in the August fix.  The BSOD side effect that is fixed in KB4345459 primarily was triggered by networking monitoring software that I saw more folks in enterprise reporting this side effect than I did on consumer machines.

For Windows 8.1 you’ll need July, August and KB4345424

I’ll let Woody give the final vote up or down, but on the business patching side, I’m flipping the main security updates for August to go ahead and install.
