• A self-paced demo of Windows Defender features

If you’ve ever wondered what a “bad” flag in Windows Defender looks like, there’s a new Windows Defender demo page on the Microsoft site.

There are many different kinds of “malware” on the site — except the bad stuff isn’t really malware, it’s demoware designed to trigger specific kinds of malware warnings in Windows Defender.

For example, the Cloud-delivered protection test has you download a file that looks like a virus, but really isn’t. You can then watch Windows Defender (and, I discovered, Chrome and Firefox) bring up their defensive warnings.

If the file executes, or if you see it blocked by Windows Defender SmartScreen it means that cloud-delivered protection is not working and you should go to configure and validate network connections for Windows Defender Antivirus to learn more

There are many more tests of the same ilk. Fascinating stuff.

    Thx @Kirsty.
