Microsoft’s plan to force newer Kaby Lake/Ryzen processor owners to Win10 backfires
Draconian update shutoff, aimed at newer 7th generation processors, also snagged some 6th gen AMD Carrizo machines — and at least one Intel Celeron processor that I wasn’t expecting.
If you install yesterday’s Monthly Rollup or Security-only patch on newer Win7 or 8.1 machines, you may get locked out of all future Windows Updates.
It’s going to be interesting watching how Microsoft extricates itself from this one. Perhaps we’ll get a magic program that’ll turn Windows Update on again. Perhaps Microsoft will call off the 7th generation dogs, and just support Win7 and 8.1 for newer hardware, as long as the hardware supports Win7/8.1.
