Microsoft’s Groove Music to team up with Spotify
One more Microsoft late-to-the-party service bites the dust. Microsoft has announced it is giving up the attempt to compete in the streaming music field.
As of October 2, 2017, we’re excited to announce that we’re partnering with Spotify to bring the world’s largest music streaming service to you. We know that access to the best streaming experience, the largest catalog of music, and a variety of subscriptions are on the top of your list. Now you can move your curated playlists and collection from Groove directly into Spotify. Groove Music Pass users eligible under Spotify’s terms will also be able to receive 60 free days of Spotify Premium.
The Grove Music Pass streaming service will be discontinued after December 31, 2017. If the subscription extends beyond that time, you will receive a prorated refund or a Microsoft Gift Card.
The Groove Music app will continue to be updated, and can be used to play purchased music. But the option to stream, purchase, and download music from Grove Music will be discontinued on December 31, 2017. You will be able to listen to your purchased music if it has been downloaded.
