Windows 10 version 1511 triggers long “Getting Windows ready” message with no patches installed
Reader AM tweeted me about this over the weekend:
Running Windows 10 build version 1511 build 10586.679, the latest version.
I rebooted. There was no indication that updates were being installed (and in fact there are no updates listed as available) but my system hung for almost an hour with “Getting Windows ready” on the screen.
I am clueless what it was getting ready for.
There’s a thread on this topic over on Tenforums. Some speculation that it might be due to automatic maintenance, but there’s not much proof. If true, that’s a whopper of an automatic maintenance cycle.
I, personally, haven’t a clue what could’ve caused it. I also haven’t seen any reports of this happening with versions of Win10 other than 1511. Any ideas?
