• What happened to Bing (nee MSN) News?

    Something else I haven’t thought about for a long time. GG writes:

    Woody, the MSN News app. does not work. It did, and then suddenly stopped. When I click the app. nothing happens. When I right click the app. there is no uninstall button. I have run the powershell program for Windows 10, out of your book, but it did not resolve anything. Also, ran “sfc” and still nothing. Any suggestions. One web page said to remove the MSN package which includes News, Sports, and something else, but that also failed to do anything. Any help you can give will be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

    Sorry Woody—my goof. I called it MSN News because that is what is shown in the App. Store. But, I guess it is Bing News. Your Windows 10 book shows Bing News with the same interface as MSN News. There is MSN News Sports, Weather, and Money. All have the same looking interface. I did type Bing News into the App. Store and nothing came up, but it did under MSN.

    My take on the matter:

    Yeah, both Bing News and MSN News aren’t getting much support these days. I can’t find them on my up-to-date version of Win10.

    Google Play Newsstand is a much, much better application – and it works in any browser, on your phone, on your tablet.

    Just like Google Photos, the Google option is immensely superior – and free. And they’ll work in any browser, or on any phone or tablet.

    The market has changed enormously in the past few months. Microsoft’s moved on to other things. The whole Windows Store is kind of drifting off into oblivion.
