Is it okay to install Security updates for Windows xp?

There are two available right now. KB960225 and KB958690. There is also one available that just says Update for windows xp KB959772. Are these safe?

KB 960225 (also known as MS09-007) and KB 958960 (MS09-006) are still “on hold” per the MS-DEFCON 2 rating, which you can see at the top of this page. I don’t see any pressing need to install either of them. It’s best to wait to see if any big problems appear.

KB 959772 is a horse of a different color. It isn’t a security patch. It’s a fix Microsoft released so Windows Media Player will correctly play music that you already bought from Microsoft. It’s yet another graphic demonstration of why you shouldn’t pay money for C.R.A.P. music. I talk about it in all of my books. If you buy music that’s locked up by Microsoft or Apple, you have no control whatsoever over the music. Stick to MP3 files (or FLACs or some other format that can’t be controlled from afar).
