Microsoft botches pushed .NET patch
If Quicken suddenly stopped working, this may be the cause.
Susan Bradley, in the paid version of Windows Secrets Newsletter advises that Microsoft’s “.NET 2.0 Service Pack 1 was deployed via automatic updates suddenly and unexpectedly last Thursday, just one week before the tax deadline. A glitch related to the update affected some installs of Intuit’s popular QuickBooks accounting software and TurboTax tax-preparation software, as well as tax software from CCH (Commerce Clearing House).”
How bad was it? If you got bit, uninstalling and then re-installing Quick Books didn’t solve the problem. You had to uninstall and then re-install .NET 2.0.
Need another reason to turn off automatic updates?
