• Windows Vista Beta 1 Released

    The Beta 1 test package of the next version of Windows is up on Microsoft’s servers. Yep, it’s “Vista Beta 1” – Longhorn no more. Microsoft managed to slip a “Windows Vista” wallpaper into the package.

    ‘Course you can’t download it unless you’re one of The Annointed Few. (Or a paying Microsoft Developer Network subscriber – MSDN folks will get access next week.) But there’s a dynamite review at Paul Thurrott’s Supersite for Windows.

    I’m still skeptical. The breathless prose about virtual folders, for one, leaves me wondering how many people actually use the same feature in Outlook 2003. Yes, I know some people do. But in real life, they’re snarly and easy to screw up.
